[Kenna]

It was no secret the worlds of men and elves were at odds. While most of the time the two continents stayed mutual with one another since the dark ages of wars, there was an uprising between the north and the south of Edanloth, the lands of men. King Byrnbright of Avinora knew his people needed protection from the Cantermores and the Stagmight army, this was fact. However, the Shadesongs had their hands full in conflict with the north which only left him with the Lionhearts and the Riverflorians, not much security there. So there was only one conclusion, to make peace with the elves in particular the High elves.

The first initial contact was pleasant enough for King Byrnbright, their was mutual agreement in this certain arrangement to make peace among their people. He would then suggest a possibility in meeting and potentially joining their houses, wanting extra security in their loyalty. Of course this arrangement would not go without Elayne, the eldest princess of the Drakestones, kicking and screaming in a resounding "No" despite his best efforts to persuade her. Callum, Byrnbright's son and heir to the throne was amused at this arrangement. Ernessa was in wonder as she was very interested in learning knew ways of her magical craft from the elves. Quinton, the youngest son and most brilliant of the bunch was more curious of the technology the elves might possess.

"But Father, I was raised to be a wife of a highborn lord. Not some peace offering to the elves! This is ridiculous and I do not condone this outlandish arrangement! I will not go through with it!" Elayne's sapphire eyes glowered in anger and denial while Callum couldn't help roll his eyes at Elayne's foolishness to adhere to their father's request. "I understand, child, however we need this alliance and I cannot let the elves go empty handed. A princess would give them the same security that we will protect each other. Now see some sense, the Stagmights and the Cantermores have greater numbers than we do. Not to mention the whispers of their kind making an alliance with the Dark elves in the kingdom of Moriloc. Which would you prefer? No security for you, your future, and the legacy of our great house or would you prefer it all to burn to the ground?" Byrnbright asked as Elayne furrowed her brow, gritting her teeth.

"Fine! I will meet with this prince but I will choose whether or not his is worthy of my womb!" Elayne growled as Byrnbright thought at her compromise as Callum coughed while drinking some wine, disgusted at the image his sister painted. Ernessa covered her mouth trying not to giggle, her elder sister was far too dramatic sometimes. "Very well, if Prince Ailuin Miaharice is not to your liking I will marry him off to Ernessa. Would that suffice?" Byrnbright asked Elayne as she crossed her arms as Ernessa gasped and blushed at the thought however she was not completely off-putted by it like her sister. However it did interfere with her plans to become a priestess. "But Father, in order to become a priestess I must be pure..." Ernessa frowned at this as Byrnbright furrowed his brow. "Then I suggest you two better figure it out, the Prince and his family will be staying for the summer to court either one of you." King Byrnbright spoke gruffly before waving his hand to shoo his meddlesome daughters out of the throne room. "This is so unfair! How dare he do this to me?!" Elayne grumbled to herself while Ernessa merely bit her lip and frowned at the unfair situation they were both placed in.

Preparations over the spring were tiresome, however, Ernessa could not deny she was quite excited for the first day of summer. She had never seen an elf before and she was quite intrigued to meet one. Ernessa had read through the night, waiting for the next day for when the Elves would arrive to their kingdom. She fell asleep outside on the balcony of her tower with her head placed on a pillow, some blankets, a book about elvish on her chest, and a lantern beside her on the ground. As the sun began to glow directly at her she started to rouse awake, as she sat up and looked over to see if any had arrived. She then froze in surprise to see in the far distance, what seemed to be an elven army. She hurried inside to bathe and put on something suitable.

Meanwhile, Elayne had already woken promptly as she was drinking tea in the gardens alone. She wore her best dress, a blue gown with golden and white trim. For elven fashion, it would probably look silly for an elf the amount of clothing a human would wear for modesty. However, Elayne would not disrobe her layers and make a fool of herself in front of the royal court just for their approval. A handmaiden walked in with an exited expression. "My Lady, the Elves have arrived! You look lovely, the prince would be a fool not to find you divine." The handmaiden said as Elayne smirked at the kind words of her lady's maid. "Should hope so, It took me all morning to look my best for him." Elayne spoke proudly as she stood up gracefully, patting her dress before walking out of the garden to join the guards that would escort her to the gates.

As Elayne made it to the entrance of the gates of the palace, her father looked her up and down with a look of approval. Callum was standing on his left and Quinton at Callum's left. Elayne walked over to stand by her mother. "This better be worth my time..." Elayne grumbled to her mother in annoyance at her father. She then looked around curiously before leaning in as the Elves were entering. "Where is Ernessa? Wasn't she the one most excited to see them?" Elayne rolled her eyes before seeing Ernessa bolt, picking up her skirts to to catch up to her parents. Elayne looked mortified at her choice of outfit. "What in gods' graces are you wearing, Ernessa?!" Elayne clasped her necklace in shock as Ernessa was wearing a similar style of the elves, a sheer yet flowy light green gown that showed way too much cleavage and the top half of her hair braided back while the rest of her fiery curls cascaded down her back.

"Green is a welcoming color to the elves, I tried my hand at designing this dress myself though I don't have your talent..." Ernessa admitted as Elayne rolled her eyes and look to her mother. "I wouldn't be caught dead being practically naked like that..." Elayne grumbled as Ernessa frowned at her sister's ignorance as just sighed looking forward waiting as the Elves were entering their courtyard in greeting. Byrnbright looked on curiously waiting for King Taeral and his family.

"Do we really have to go the human lands for an entire summer? Why can't they come to us? Do you realize how far behind this will put me in training the men if I'm gone an entire summer?" A disgruntled Zelious asked his father who had called his children and wives to a meeting in order to alert them of his plans. It was obvious the oldest prince was annoyed that his father was forcing all of his children aside from the very youngest to accompany him on this stupid journey for his younger brother's possible upcoming marriage.

Ailuin stood beside his taller, darker skinned brother and shot him a disapproving look for daring to talk back to Taeral who scowled at his first born. It was no secret that although Zelious was the oldest, he was no longer the heir and not in favor with Taeral. In an effort to get back at his father, he challenged him at every turn which was beginning to drive Taeral crazy because the king wasn't quite sure what to do with his rebellious first born aside from exiling him to punish him but he knew his wife would never allow it and personally he didn't want to be that harsh.

"Zelious, I have already told you... It is vital that we go to them in order to show how willing we are to ally with them and how serious we are about this. It will be beneficial to both the humans and our kind for a joining of houses to happen to further cement this alliance. Not to mention, it will be good for all of us to see how the humans live. Besides, it was what the human king and I agreed with the human king that we would come to the human lands so that Ailuin could take the time to court his oldest daughter. I will not have you ruining this chance for your brother to get a wife and for us to have a new ally. Am I clear?" Taeral narrowed his green eyes at his firstborn, neither man willing to submit to the other as the two stared each other down.

However, Zelious eventually caved and threw his hands up in the air in irritation and averted his gaze. "Fine! I guess whatever is best for your precious chosen heir, eh?" He said bitterly before spinning on his heel to storm off. "Zelious! Get back here!" Taeral thundered in anger as Zelious shot him a rude gesture before disappearing around the corner and the king collapsed onto his throne and pinched the bridge of his nose. He was thoroughly irritated by his son's behavior.

Ailuin frowned and stepped forward, bowing in respect to his father. "Worry not, father. Everything will go according to plan and I will do my best to impress the princess. You have my word." His father had already warned him that the princess might be hard to woo and didn't seem keen on the plan for them to wed. Ailuin, the second prince, was truly the golden child and had always done what was expected of him. Although he tried not to show it, there was a lot of pressure on his shoulders now that he had been chosen to replace Zelious as the crown prince and chosen heir to succeed his father.

Not to mention, the growing tension between his elder brother and himself. He knew that Zelious resented him for having his father's favor. Although Zelious may have felt like he had stolen his birthright from him, Ailuin had done no such thing. He hadn't even wanted to be king. But it was expected of him now and he had no other choice. Taeral looked up at him and nodded before dismissing his children.

The entire spring was spent preparing for their journey and although Zelious's temper eased, he was still rather angry over the affair. However, it wasn't as if he had a choice in the matter. He had tried to convince Taeral to allow him to stay behind, but the only ones allowed to stay behind were his mother, the third wife, and her baby. Even his half sister, Rosaria, had to accompany them. It really pissed him off but there was nothing that could be done.

However, he refused to ride in a carriage and instead rode on his horse with his falcon perched on his shoulder, his blue eyes alert for any signs of danger and a hand on the hilt of his sword. He may have been unhappy, but he would not allow anything to happen to his family during their journey to Avinora and was still in charge of their safety along with the men under him that accompanied them on their journey. Eventually they arrived at the human castle and he dismounted from his horse before waiting on standby as his family exited their elven carriages.

As Taeral led the way, Zelious moved to walk beside Ailuin. It was obvious that Zelious was not dressed like a prince but more of a soldier, or rather the general that he was. "Are you excited to meet your betrothed, brother? I pity you. She'll probably be snobbish and a bore like most human noblewomen are." Ailuin shot his brother a stare, narrowing his silver eyes slightly. "What does it matter to you, Zelious? You are not the one going to marry her." Zelious confused him sometimes when he acted like this, almost as if they were actual close brothers but he knew it was a farce.

This was just Zelious's way of poking fun at him and trying to bait him for a reaction but Ailuin would not fall for it. Zelious smirked at that. "Why, you're correct. I suppose that I am lucky in that aspect." He then paused as Taeral stopped to turn and glare at him. "Enough of your prattling. Be silent and do not embarrass me or your brother." He said before turning away, missing the way Zelious's expression darkened and his body tensed. "Of course, my king." He spat bitterly before falling silent.

Meanwhile, Alvyna stood beside her husband, dressed in one of her finest dresses. Her long red hair was done elegantly and she looked like the picture perfect queen that she was expected to be. She looked over at her oldest daughter as she also examined her appearance before also giving a nod of approval as she smiled warmly at her daughter. She then chuckled as Elayne came to stand beside her, grumbling how this had best be worth it.

"I'm sure it will be, my darling. At least give the prince a chance. You never know...you might like him." She patted her arm lightly in reassurance before also noticing that her second daughter was missing. She then frowned, worry showing on her face. "I am not certain...wait, there she is!" She noticed Ernessa hurrying over them. Unlike Elayne, she didn't seem too horrified by what her youngest daughter was wearing. "Enough... the elves are approaching," She said, intervening in her daughters conversation and looked over as the elves approached.

Taeral approached with his family, coming to a stop in front at respectable distance from the human royals, a beautiful blonde elf at his side. Her name was Ilayana and she was the second wife of Taeral and the mother of Ailuin, Zaleria, Vaeri, and Rosaria. While her husband spoke to the human king, her gaze was drawn towards the princess that her son would be wedding and she couldn't help but inwardly worry because she was not quite certain if this would work quite like things were planned.

She then glanced at her son who was, instead of looking at Elayne, instead focused on the second princess dressed in a beautiful green dress. It seemed he was more interested in the second princess but when he felt her looking at him, Ailuin immediately looked away from Ernessa and instead looked at her older sister. Ailuin himself wasn't quite sure what to make of the first princess who seemed like she didn't even want to be here. He then noticed that Zelious was looking at her as well. He hadn't ever seen his brother look so interested in something before.

Taeral looked at the human king, his children standing behind him, flanked on either side by the guards that had come to accompany them along with Zelious who stood off to the side with them as if he wasn't actually a prince. "Thank you for opening your home to my family and my son for the summer. I am looking forward to seeing how things play out and trying to make this alliance work."

King Byrnbright gazed upon King Taeral with an attentive yet welcoming expression, doing his best to make sure his important guests felt welcome. Elayne's eyes traveled over to a dark elf that looked more like a soldier, curious considering the dark elves and the High elves were at odds with one another. While most elves held very little interest to her due to their lean stature, the dark elf did not resemble the same kind of build which she couldn't deny it excited her. His build was more her type, the athletic build with a muscular definition but not too muscular either. Elayne leaned over to Ernessa and spoke without moving her lips. "Who is that lovely specimen?" She asked coquettishly as Ernessa fought the urge to giggle. "Prince Zelious, King Taeral's first son. From what I hear, he's been denied the heir of the throne." Ernessa whispered back without moving her lips. "Pity..." Elayne thought to herself before looking to her father.

"Why of course, this alliance was far overdue and I commend you and your family's best efforts to make the journey here, King Taeral." King Byrnbright smiled with a gleaming white grin as he looked over to Prince Ailuin and then to his eldest daughter. "Ah Prince Ailuin, it is a pleasure to have you and your family in the summer. It is a shame King Taeral will not be staying for the entirety but I do understand. Please do feel free to let us know of anything you need while staying here." Byrnbright said before continuing. "Right next to my charming wife, Queen Alvyna is my eldest daughter Elayne." He smiled as Elayne tried to keep her expression neutral as she put on a soft smile and approached as she offered her hand to him "A pleasure to meet you, my prince." Elayne's voice was soft, sweet and charming however inside she wanted to step on Ailuin's foot with her heel and turn back to her tower. "And then there is my youngest daughter Ernessa, she is quite fond of your lands, always studying." Byrnbright said ad Ernessa bowed traditionally like a High Elf would. "Welcome to our kingdom, I hope you enjoy your stay here." Ernessa spoke quite well in high elvish, her green eyes prideful of her hard work to speak as authentic as possible. "And these are my sons, Callum and Quinton." Byrnbright smiled as Callum nodded respectfully and Quinton looked curiously to the elves but remained quiet.

Zelious had been looking at Elayne because he had felt her looking at him. He stared at her curiously for a moment before averting his gaze elsewhere, absently reaching up to stroke the feathers of the falcon perched on his shoulder. The bird of prey seemed quite content to stay on his shoulders, careful not to dig her talons too deep into her master's shoulder and leaned into his hand. He couldn't help but smile. Even if the world was often against him, at least he had his falcon.

His pure white hair was pulled to the side in a somewhat loose, messy side braid while some of his hair was pulled to the side to frame his face. He didn't seem bothered by the fact that a good portion of his chest was exposed by his top. He knew he stood out with his dark skin and dark clothing but it didn't bother him. Even the men standing on guard beside him were dressed in green and gold with fair skin and blond and brown hair.

His blue eyes then flickered back towards Elayne, seeing that she was still staring and he couldn't help but give her a rougeish smirk and wink, if only to annoy his brother that he could feel was watching him as well. He then turned his attention towards his father and her own father, observing the conversation. His mood instantly dropped as he remembered why he was here. Taeral gazed at Byrnbright with a nod, a very slight smile pulling at his lips. He was a man of few emotions and the fact that he was allowing a smile, even slight as it was, to grace his lips, was a good sign.

"Of course. And it will be good for my children to get out of our lands and experience different cultures here in your kingdom." He then looked at his son, Ailuin, and gave him a slight nod as the second prince stepped forward obediently. His silver eyes were focused on his bride to be before looking back at Byrnbright. "Thank you, your grace. I am humbled by this opportunity to join your family." He could feel the eyes of his parents on him and even though he looked calm and collected on the outside, on the inside he was slightly nervous about messing up.

The prince was good at masking his own feelings unlike his older brother who seemed to often wear his heart on his sleeve. This was one of many reasons that Taeral favored him over his brash older son. "I appreciate it, your grace. I will be sure to let you know if I require anything." He bowed his head in respect, having made sure to touch up on human customs enough to know how to properly address human royals which was a little different than how the elven royals preferred. He then looked back at Elayne, watching as she approached. He didn't really feel any interest bubble up inside of him towards her but maybe he just needed to get to know her better.

He gingerly took her hand, bending to press a featherlight and respectful kiss to her knuckles. He then tensed, hearing Zelious's snickers from the side and he had to resist the urge to turn around and glare at his older brother. "It is a pleasure to meet you as well, princess. I look forward to getting to know you," He said with a polite smile, warmth showing on his face. Ailuin was still hyper aware of his parents' gazes, watching him like a hawk to make sure that he didn't mess this up. He then straightened, gently releasing Elayne's hand and looked over at Ernessa as she was introduced. He couldn't help but stare, definitely far more interested in her especially when she bowed traditionally like a high elf and even spoke in High Elven and he couldn't help but smile.

Taeral cleared his throat as he watched Ailuin immediately avert his gaze, embarrassed to have been caught staring at the second princess instead of his intended. "I will introduce my family as well. This is my second wife and the mother of most of my children, Ilayana. My other two wives were unable to come as Queen Farryn needed to stay behind to govern in my absence and Islyne has just recently birthed my youngest child." He then gestured to his children, introducing his daughters. "This is Zaleria, she is my eldest daughter. The second oldest is Fenrie, but she stayed behind with her mother since she was not feeling well. Next is Vaeri and then my youngest, Rosaria." He didn't bother introducing Zelious, not wanting to give his eldest a chance to cause a scene.

"Yes, I'm sure we will considering our King Father has planned quite the event around our courting." Elayne said before shooting a soft look to Prince Zelious snickering, raising a brow slightly before returning her gaze to her future betrothed. Elayne then turned her attention back to Taeral as he spoke, giving an attentive expression as she fought the urge to look towards Zelious. Byrnbright's eyes traveled to Queen Ilayana and smiled in greeting as he respectfully nodded to her, it was improper for a married king to kiss the hand of a woman that wasn't his queen, unlike lords and ladies who were free to do so. "Welcome, of course the same hospitality to Prince Ailuin is extended to you all. Whatever our servants can provide, do not hesitate to ask them or a guard for assistance." King Byrnbright spoke graciously to Taeral's family as he then clasped his hands together.

"Now, I imagine you all are very worn and weary from your travels. How about a relaxing breakfast in the gardens while your guards and mine help accommodate your provisions into your tower. Quite a lovely tower, may I add, as it was built right near the seaside. The view of the sunrise and sunset from the balconies are divine." King Byrnbright mentioned as he held his arm out for Alvyna to take and motioned in a very grand and welcoming gesture for King Taeral to join him as he started to discuss the history of the tower they were to stay in.

Elayne then looked to Ailuin with an expectant gaze to escort her. Ernessa frowned as she realized the elves may not be accustomed to human rules of courting. "She intends for you to extend your arm to her. In our lands, a man who courts a woman always leads." Ernessa said but in elvish so he would not feel embarrassment if Elayne had any clue that Ailuin had no idea of human courting. "What are you saying?" Elayne looked to her sister suspiciously as Ernessa flushed. "Oh I was just saying...how lovely it is to have his family here..." Ernessa fibbed as Elayne raised a brow but shrugged as Elayne took Ailuin's arm. Ernessa sighed before looking to the dark elf prince with a slight nervousness before walking away hastily to catch up with the family. It wasn't so much that she didn't like Dark elves, she was just wary knowing that even a half Dark elf was rather powerful and when crossed could stand as a strong opponent.

"I see," Ailuin said simply, not bothering to give his brother a glance. It was better if he pretended that Zelious wasn't here. He honestly didn't even understand why his father had insisted on Zelious coming other than to keep a close eye on him. Meanwhile, Zelious could once again feel the gaze of the princess on him as he turned to look at her, noticing the way she raised an eyebrow at him in silent questioning. Of course, she had no idea of why he was laughing and probably assumed it was at her or something. Of course, he had been snickering at his brother and not her. But it wasn't as if he could explain himself nor did he really feel the need to. What did it matter what some human princess thought of him anyways? It wasn't like he was the one who had to marry her, either.

Ilayana looked at Byrnbright and inclined her head in greeting, rewarding him with a smile as she clung to her husband's arm, making no move to extend to him like his daughter had done to her son. Unlike her son, she was quite knowledgeable in human customs and knew it was improper for a married human king to kiss the hand of anyone other than his own queen. "Thank you, your grace. My husband and I appreciate your hospitality," The elven queen spoke, knowing that her husband wouldn't mind if she talked to the human king. Taeral patted his wife's hand and then looked at Brynbright. "We are indeed weary from our journey so some respite would be much appreciated." His green gaze wandered to his youngest daughter who looked a little tired. It was Rosaria's first time leaving the elven lands and she had never been in a carriage for so long before.

Alvyna smiled at her husband and took his arm, accompanying her husband as she shot a look at her children. The only child she really needed to worry about acting up was Elayne, though. The other three were much better behaved, but that did not mean she loved Elayne any less. If anything, Elayne was a lot like she had been in her youth. Ailuin looked at Elayne as she looked at him expectantly but he wasn't quite sure what she wanted from him. He glanced over to her sister as Ernessa explained in elvish what was required of him and his lips curled upwards in a warm smile. He appreciated that she had specifically chosen to speak in Elvish to save him embarrassment. He offered his arm to Elayne, chuckling softly as Ernessa lied to her sister about what she had said. He then followed after their families, missing the way Zelious was eyeing them.

Zelious wasn't blind. He hadn't missed the almost nervous the princess had shot him. Was she scared of him all of a sudden? Why did he have a feeling it was because he was half dark elf? Although, by appearance's sake, he looked like he was a full dark elf. His mother's side had definitely dominated his appearance and he didn't even look like he had part high elf in him except for his slightly lighter skin but there were still dark elves with lighter skin like him. He shrugged, used to people being scared of him.

Elayne took Ailuin's arm, trying to remain pleasant despite wanting to run the other way. How on earth did her father think that this weak elf was meant to father her children? This was embarrassing. "I hope the journey treated you well, my prince..." Elayne trailed off as Byrnbright was leading the family to the gardens for breakfast. As they entered the gardens, she gazed over one of the cliffside balconies in the distance. There she gazed at the knights training for the tournament Byrnbright was planning later in the week. Elayne then looked back to Ailuin, holding back a sigh. She took a seat next to him pouring some tea and then his obediently as it was a test of courting for a woman to pour their betrothed's cup. Not that she would have guess he would have noticed. Ernessa looked on as she sat beside Callum, her brow raising at her sister whom seemed to wilt a little.

"I hope you don't mind the commotion below, our knights are training for the jousting tournament in a week's time for the Summer Solstice Festival." Byrnbright said as he sat down with a chuckle to King Taeral. "Of course, you might not know why we celebrate to summer solstice so proudly..." Byrnbright stroked his beard as Ernessa eyes brightened at the subject. "It is believed that the goddess of the wild gave us all our respective animal forms on the summer solstice." Ernessa spoke as Byrnbright chuckled at his daughter before reaching over pat her head. "Yes, quite right, Ernessa spends a lot of time with the scholars and priestesses. Though Elayne is also quite astute in her studies. She's got a keen eye in politics, very fitting for a queen to understand such delicate matters." Byrnbright said proudly as Elayne merely shrugged modestly about it.

"I'll tell you one time, I was quite proud of her. You see, there was this trader that was selling toxic tonics to people. Making people Ill, such nasty business that I try to behead when my men capture these menaces of society. My brilliant daughter was enjoying a day in the market when this worm of a man tried to sell her it. Elayne, very cleverly, asked the ingredients of the tonic. To my shock, one of the common ingredients in these tonics were an exotic berry from Riverfloria. Harmless on its own but makes toxins much more potent when mixed. Elayne had just read on the exotic trader system of Riverfloria not even an hour from then. She then graciously bought the tonic and my guards were called. Clever girl, very resourceful of information and good at keeping composure in front of enemies. Exactly why my daughter deserves to be a queen." Byrnbright smiled proudly as Elayne flushed a bit.

"Oh it was just reading, nothing that special..." Elayne said as Callum smirked and chuckled. "Oh you're modest now, though you will gloat about your champions all night long, dear sister." Callum prodded as Elayne raised a brow. "Of course, because I am to choose champions, not degenerates like your bets." Elayne spoke confidently. "Yes, because Florian Riverflower is the jewel of champions..." Callum chuckled as Elayne titled her head. "And how long is his winning streak again? Fourteen to zero? Perhaps you're just envious because I choose more wisely than you, Brother." Elayne smirked as Byrnbright rolled his eyes. "Alright children, let's not frighten our guests." Byrnbright said as he helped himself to some breakfast. "You better watch out, Prince Ailuin. Young knights have been lining up to marry my sweet sister. They might feel envious of you." Callum teased playfully as Elayne rolled his eyes. "Oh ignore him, I do." Elayne said before sipping her tea.

Ailuin glanced at Elayne with his silver eyes, studying her for a second before averting his gaze. He had a feeling that Elayne wasn't so impressed with him but it didn't really bother him as much as he thought it would. Maybe it was because he seemed more interested in her sister. What would happen to the alliance if he and Elayne were not a good pair, though? He would try, though, for the sake of his family even if he would rather a different bride. "The journey was rather pleasant. I enjoy leaving the castle when I am able so that I can see more of the outside world. I was especially looking forward to seeing the human lands as this is my first time venturing past our borders."

He then noticed the gardens that were coming up and he couldn't help but wonder how many plants were in this place that he was unfamiliar with. Knowledge was definitely more important to him than power, which made him seem weak to many, including his brother. He just did not enjoy violence, especially if matters could be resolved with words rather than brutal displays of power and violence. Life was precious in his eyes and it should not be wasted so easily. But that did not mean he was a complete pansy. He could hear his father having a conversation with hers about the festival, but movement from the corner of his eye captured his attention as he saw Zelious break from the other guards to get closer at the mention of a jousting tournament. He really hoped that his elder brother wasn't going to cause a scene. He didn't know why his father had insisted on bringing him when Taeral knew he couldn't control Zelious. He could see Zelious staring off in the distance towards the commotion of the training.

If Taeral noticed Zelious, he didn't show it as he focused on the conversation with Brynbright. "That is a rather fascinating custom. We also have our own festivals but it is always interesting to learn about other culturues." Taeral seemed rather at ease, enjoying himself. He had been a little worried about this, but it seemed that so far that his fears were unfounded. "Your daughter seems quite knowledgeable. My Ailuin also enjoys knowledge... perhaps a little too much." He chuckled as Ilayana patted his arm, pleased to see her husband so relaxed. It had been awhile since Taeral had been this relaxed. He then fell silent as they listened to the story about Elayne and his green eyes glimmered with interest. "Both of your daughters seem rather skilled... We would be lucky to have either one join our family." He smiled slightly, his words genuine. However, he knew his father would be rolling in his grave but that mattered not to him.

Zelious was staring off into the distance but his interest perked at the story about the princess that his brother would be marrying and he couldn't help but look at her, sizing her up again. Either her father was just talking her up or she truly was smarter that she seemed. He knew it was none of his business and yet he couldn't help but want to learn more about this princess. It wasn't like he had anything better to do, either. Ailuin looked at Callum and smiled at his words. "It would appear that I have some competition," He said, joking softly.

Elayne looked toward Ailuin's as he made his remark, her brow arched but her lips pursed to a an approving smile at the sound of that. Perhaps the prince had a backbone after all and she was too quick to judge him. She then sipped her tea contently as a male servant walked over nervously and bowed to Elayne. "Yes, Martin?" Elayne looked to the servant with a with a look of disapproval for interrupting a meeting. "Princess Elayne, I do apologize but there is some urgency..." Martin says as he kneels before her to whisper. "What?! What do you mean he- oh gods, must I do everything?! Where is he now?" Elayne asked as Martin whispered into her ear again. Elayne let out a troubled sigh as she stood up. "Your Graces, I do apologize but I must leave for a short time. I understand it is rude of me but I will not be gone long." Elayne frowned with very cross glimmering sapphire eyes.

"Is it dangerous?" Byrnbright asked curiously as Elayne bite her lip and tilted her head thoughtfully. "Some knights are refusing to take part in the tournament, it seems someone got it in their head that I am participating in this marriage by force. How ridiculous, I must set the record straight now." Elayne said as Byrnbright nodded. "Yes that would be wise, we do not need a hysteria in our city. Yes do what you must to correct this situation but I don't want you going alone." Byrnbright said before eyeing his men but then smiling, now would be a good test in faith to the elves. "King Taeral, would you agree my beautiful daughter should not go without an escort? Now I would never expect you heir to go with her, that would be dangerous...however...our people are wary of...Dark Elves. What do you think? It might be good for Elayne to be accompanied by your other son. I'm sure he's fully capable in bringing my daughter back to me unharmed..." Byrnbright asked with a challenging grin as Elayne tried not to glance at Zelious and cleared her throat uncomfortably.

Ailuin could feel Elayne's gaze on him and he turned his head to glance at her, noticing the approving smile on her lips. It seemed that what he had said was something that approved of. Was she beginning to rethink her opinion of him? He had no idea what her true thoughts of him were but he had a feeling they weren't too great. It wasn't the first time someone had misjudged him and it certainly would not be the last. He then watched the male servant approach and his eyebrows couldn't help but knit together in mild confusion though he did his best to hide such an emotion from his face. Even with his keen hearing, he only caught bits and pieces of it. Just what was going on to cause such a reaction from her and cause her to leave?

He then flicked his gaze towards her father, further confused by his reaction. The king did not seem at all angered or perturbed by her behavior and instead seemed curious and also like he was trusting her to handle whatever was going on. Taeral was also observing the scene rather curiously, however he suddenly had a sinking feeling in the pit of his stomach as Brynbright turned towards him with an almost mischievous look. If he didn't want his daughter to go alone, why was Bynbright looking at him in such a manner? Taeral's unasked question was soon answered and he couldn't help but tense up immediately. His blank expression didn't falter, but inwardly he was feeling a mixture of panic and frustration and a slight tinge of anger. The last thing he wanted to do was send his eldest with the king's daughter but it wasn't like he could refuse him.

He then glanced over at his eldest son who had heard the conversation and was looking at him with a devilish smirk. He glared very slightly at him, sending a silent message to him that he should behave before he looked at Brynbright. "Of course... Zelious would no doubt be able to keep your daughter safe. He is quite a skilled warrior and would have no problem at all escorting her to where she needs to go." He just hoped that Zelious would not ruin things for him. He then finally gave a nod to his son, ignoring the panicked look on Ailuin's face as Zelious stepped towards Elayne.

The tall dark Elf strode over to her and towered over her, glancing down at her with his crystal blue eyes, the falcon still perched on his shoulder. "It would be my honor to escort you, princess. I assure you that you will be safe in my custody." He then smirked rogueishly down at her, his blue eyes glinting with mischief. This was the perfect chance to get her alone and find out what kind of person she was and if she was truly suited to join their family as his brother's bride.

Elayne then turned over her her shoulder to gaze with her deep sapphire eyes that sparked from the sunlight divinely at him. "Well aren't you quite the gentleman, I would be honored to have quite the escort." Elayne said before looking to Ailuin, leaning towards his ear enough to whisper but not too intimately close that it would be stepping a boundary. "My apologies, my Prince. When I get back, you'll have my full attention." Elayne pulled away with a smirk before walking away as Ernessa glanced over at her sister, fighting back the urge of an eye roll at her. Elayne then nodded for Zelious to follow, walking with a dignified stride that seemed graceful and delicate yet it still demanded power and respect as servants walked past yet bowed to her.

Elayne's gaze remained focus ahead, the wheels turning in her head as she thought of what she would say or do in regard to the knights. "I hope you don't mind if we take my horse, Equinox. He's a bit of a brute though so I should take the reigns..." Elayne said as she made her way out to the royal stables as a stable boy tried to pull out this magnificent stallion with the fur as black as midnight but a silver mane. The stallion bucked wildly and neighed in protest as the stable boy jumped in fright as Elayne smirked as she then looked to her stubborn and defensive horse. "Tsk tsk, now Equinox. Is that a way to make a first impression? You'll frighten my friend..." Elayne chuckled as the horse huffed in agitation but soon calmed at his owner's words. "Come here, my sweet boy." Elayne clicked her teeth again as Equinox walked over calmly with a more content huff this time as she stroke his muzzle sweetly. "He was a gift for my brother, originally. Poor Callum was bucked off before he could even get his feet on the ground. Made him so angry, it was quite funny." Elayne smirked as the horse nuzzled against her lovingly.

"Then my siblings all tried to get close to the horse, same result. However, when he tried to buck me off, I refused to let go. If I fell, I just got right back up again, mud on me or not...he was going to be my horse. I rather someone work for my affections than expect any from me, so I respected his terms in return." Elayne giggled before climbing on, making sure her dress did not hike up too high when climbing on. The horse looked to Zelious but made no move of irritation, in fact his face was curious as he leaned in curiously and huffed in approval. "Strange...he normally hates other people." Elayne raised a fiery brow, inwardly impressed as her cheeks flushed.

From up close, it was obvious to him that the princess truly was stunning. She was beautiful and he enjoyed the way the sun hit her eyes, making them almost sparkle with a divine light. However, Zelious knew better than to allow a pretty face to distract him. Still, that didn't mean he couldn't have some fun especially if it meant he could get back at his father and half-brother. "Excellent," He said as he watched her lean forward to whisper something in his brother's ear and he rolled his eyes because he had clearly caught it. He looked at his falcon, knowing that she wasn't keen on leaving his side but figured it would be good for her to go and stretch her wings. "Go, Luna. Go stretch your wings and hunt." He then forced her to take flight before walking after the princess, ignoring the offended shriek of his bird of prey companion as she ascended into the air, doing as he said.

He did not miss the way the servants seemed to respect her and he couldn't help but be impressed slightly by the way she carried herself. He then looked at her as she mentioned her horse and he raised an eyebrow, his curiosity piquing as she mentioned that he was a brute. Zelious had never met a horse he couldn't tame or ride, but he wasn't going to say that to her. "I don't mind if we take your horse.. granted he's big enough." He then looked ahead as they neared the stables and his blue gaze landed on the stallion acting up for the poor stable hand. He had a feeling that was her horse and he was proved right as she called to him. He then couldn't help but snort at her comment of him being frightened. "I assure you, princess, I do not frighten easily."

He then fell silent, respectfully listening to her story about the stallion while his gaze was training on the creature. "Reminds me of my own horse.. I'm the only one who can ride him." He then moved forward without any sign of fear, noticing the way the horse was looking at him. He then held out his hand as he let the animal sniff his hand and smirked at the huff of approval. "Most animals like me... I've never met a horse I couldn't ride. Yours here seems the type to respect confident people who aren't afraid of him. If I showed any sign of fear, he would have tried to stomp or bite me." He then reached out, patting his neck affectionately. "Though, I imagine, he is also quite protective of his mistress and would do anything to protect her." It seemed that he was good at reading animals. He then looked up at her, his eyes glinting with amusement. "Still want to take the reigns or will you trust me?"

Elayne raised a brow but simply nodded as she let go of the Reigns and slide back so she was sitting on the backside of the horse so he could climb up. Elayne was quite impressed with Zelious, he also had this stance of power and confidence. As he climbed on Elayne grasped his waist firmly so she would not fall, knowing Equinox could buck her off if he chose to be moody. She couldn't help but secretly admire his muscles, but she tried to keep it professional. "I could do with an insightful yet confident bodyguard..." Elayne smirked before leaning closer. "That was a compliment, however I expect a more than competent and handsome prince like yourself has other things to do." Elayne chuckled playfully. She directed him where to go as they rode.

As they reached the training grounds, Elayne looked to the Knights training and then to the ones defiantly standing off to the side as they got into arguments with the guards. "Why are men always so petty?" Elayne grumbled mostly to herself as she climbed down gracefully, fixing her dress and fluffing her hair before striding over "What in hellfire are you all doing?!" Elayne's voice boomed at the commotion as they all froze and snapped their heads towards her. "Princess Elayne, my apologies for the actions of everyone however some of the knights refuse to fight in light of the engagement. They feel you are being used as a political pawn, I do not deny I worry too." A knight with long dark locks and blue eyes walked up to her while bowing respectfully. Elayne arched a brow at the Knight before gritting her teeth slightly. She then took a breath and exhaled as her eyes and face relaxed to a more approachable expression.

"How kind of you all to care so much for my well being. I cannot ask for more virtuous and honorable men to grace the guild. However, I am more than content in this arrangement as it would mean I would be queen elsewhere. I will always live my home but sometimes responsibility calls for somewhere else and I refuse to turn my back to my duty as princess. Which is in the end to marry, to honor, and eventually give an heir to my future husband. Now, how do you think the people will react to their knights refusing to participate in the tournament? The children who will be robbed of seeing the men that look up to them? The common folk who feel safe every day because of your best efforts? They would be heartbroken. So the question I may ask is...is it benefitting anyone?" Elayne said as the Knights looked at her thoughtfully, some even looking sad at her.

"Yes, you do make a point. We never wanted to make trouble, Princess." A knight said as the rest nodded but looked to Zelious warily. One knight scoffed, looking disappointed in this conversation as he approached. "I don't see why we need to indulge these pointy eared bastards to begin with! We were fine without them!" The Knight glared defiantly at Zelious with a sneer s Elayne's eyes hardened. "Sir Harrow, I strongly suggest you think before you insult our guests." Elayne's eyes darkened, her hair beginning to blaze. "Why? What have they ever done for us? They waged petty wars on us for hundreds of years, stole women from our villages, and even stolen our goods. Some of them still do over in wood elf territory!" Sir Harrow said as Elayne's eyes glowed.

"Let me make something clear to you since you want to share a history lesson despite the lack of intelligence behind your bile. We are on good terms with the High elves, not the Wood Elves or the Dark elves. They all have different kingdoms and governments that coordinate in different ways. The High Elves have never waged war on us, stolen our goods, or abducted our women. They simply kept to themselves while they too struggled with surrounding kingdoms and still do to this day. The dark elves are the ones stealing our goods and the wood elves have fought us for tearing down trees which was fair due to the fact that the trees that were torn down was sacred which we promised not to do. The abductions where fearmongering rumors that held very little weight and there were very few cases which turned out to be women who feel in love with Dark Elves to begin with and eloped." Elayne said with an unwavering face of defiance to Sir Harrow as he glared in annoyance before walking away in defeat.

Elayne then looked over to Zelious with a nod, an apologetic look before looking to the men again. "I expect you all to do your best for the tournament. Do not do it for my sake but the sake of your people." Elayne said as she walked away again towards Zelious when an arrow shot right past her which made her turn to look over to several horses charging forward towards the training grounds. Elayne glared as the knights yelled "The Cantermores!" before turning to Zel calmly though it was clear she was putting on a façade to hide the fear and anger. "Hurry, let the men deal with this." Elayne said as she climbed back onto the horse, holding the reigns this time. She waited for Zelious to climb on and hold on.

Zelious climbed up onto the saddle in front of her, easily settling there before grabbing the reigns and waiting until she was situated and holding onto him. "Don't let go, princess. I'd hate for you to fall off your own horse," He said in a teasing tone. It was obvious that he was teasing her instead of mocking her. He then paused at her statement and chuckled. "There is a high chance that might happen if you do end marrying my brother but who knows. I accept the compliment all the same. Honestly, you're not like I was expecting so it might not be such a bore to protect you." He then chuckled as he guided her horse to the training grounds, his blue eyes scanning the field as he eyed the knights that were training and then the ones gathered around looking defiant.

He then slowed the horse to a stop as he glanced at her before chuckling deeply at her words. This princess was definitely different than how he had first imagined her. He did not think his brother would be able to handle her. Not at all. He slid down from the horse's back and held out a hand to help her but she was already gracefully sliding down on her own, a fire in her eyes as she marched over to the men. He chuckled as he glanced at Equinox. "Your mistress has a fiery temper, doesn't she?" He patted the horse's neck before commanding him to stay and following after her as she addressed the guards. He stood near her, crossing his arms across his broad chest and stared them down. He couldn't help but eye the knight that approached her, watching as he spoke to the princess.

Really? These men were revolting because of her upcoming marriage to his brother? How fascinating. What kind of relationship did she have to these men? He couldn't help but watch with great interest as she reassured them. He remained silent, allowing her to handle it while he observed. However, he noticed the way the men eyed him warily but then one scoffed as he approached. He narrowed his blue eyes at him, sensing a troublemaker. This man was either incredibly stupid or brave. He had a feeling it was the former, though, and not the latter. He was just about to defend himself and possibly teach the fool a lesson as he uncrossed his arms, but stopped when he heard Elayne defend him and school the men with a history lesson.

He was honestly surprised about how much she knew about the elven kingdom but noted that she said nothing about the snow elves. Once Harrow had backed off, he turned to look at Elayne and inclined his head as she looked at him. Once she was done and walking back to him, he noticed the arrow and scowled because it had caught him off guard. He had been too distracted by the princess and not noticed the approach of enemies. This would do, but for now, he needed to get her to safety even if he was itching to go and fight. "Well, princess, I would tell you how impressed I am at you schooling your men, especially that Harrow fellow, but it seems that now isn't quite the time. Let's get out of here and get you to safety and then I can tell you how amazing you are," He said casually, hopping back up onto the back of the horse and not minding that she was in front.

He wrapped one arm around her waist and then looked back at the Cantermores, frowning at them. "So who are the Cantermores? I confess, I'm not familiar with human history or all of their conflicts unless it invovles other elves." He could almost sense her anger and fear though and figured conversation might help distract her.

[Kenna]

"I know a place to lie low for a moment, we do not know if there's more of them elsewhere and I cannot risk exposing our exits from the kingdom." Elayne said as Equinox bolted powerfully away from the conflict. At Zelious' question, Elayne huffed a sigh and grit her teeth. "The enemy's aid..." Elayne spoke darkly as Equinox bobbed an weaved into a nearby forest. She had her horse jump over a log and bolt over to a waterfall. She rode right through it causing both of them to get drenched as there was a secret cavern behind it. "We can stay here for a little while. Father knows of it, I'm sure he'll send word when it's safe..." Elayne said as she got off the horse and shuddered slightly from the water. "My apologies, I know being wet's not comfortable. If Ernessa was here...she could do a drying spell." Elayne said as she adverted her eyes uncomfortably, clearly hiding something as she walked over and sat down on a rock. Her hair was drenched yet still curly, her dress was heavy and wet.

"The Stagmights are the real adversaries, because we refuse to have an alliance with dark elves and refuse to work with them if they continue to have an alliance with them. They believe its because we are power hungry but that is not why. The Dark elves have given us no reason to trust them and quite frankly we fear their power. There is no safety for us to go against them especially on a full moon. I'm sure you know that well." Elayne said as she looked to Zelious with a frown. "I do not think terrible of them but the lack of security on our side is concerning. Our magic isn't unlimited, we cannot make magic out of nothing. We have to use other means to make magic happen. Sometimes, it can kill us..." Elayne said as she pulled her hair away from the side of her face, unclasping the necklace on her neck. As she did so, the right side of her face changed. Half of it still beautiful and fair, the other side down to her neck burnt and her eye deformed. "Do you still think I'm amazing or do you see a monster like so many would?" Elayne glanced over to Zelious, curious to his reaction to her true appearance.

Zelious was more than understanding about her not wanting to risk exposing the exits from the kingdom because he found it fair. It was understandable that she didn't want to give away her kingdom's secrets to him or the enemy. So, he decided not to comment on that. Instead, he focused on her explanation about who had attacked them as they made their getaway. His sharp blue eyes were keeping an eye out for any sign of an attack, ready to defend the princess he had been charged to guard. Although he hadn't been keen on protecting her originally, she had turned out to be an interesting person and he'd rather keep her safe so he could learn more about her.

However, he looked at her when she finally answered him and he couldn't help but raise a white eyebrow in silent curiosity. So they were the enemy's aid? Well, that wasn't a lot of information. As much as he wanted to question her on who the enemy was, he knew it was better to focus on their escape. The rest of his questions could definitely wait until they were no longer in danger. He didn't even flinch as they went through a waterfall and into a hidden cavern, his entire body soaked as his clothes clung to his muscled body. He waited until the horse came to a halt before dismounting and making sure that she had dismounted safely. He couldn't help but wonder how long they were going to be stuck in this cavern.

He didn't respond to her words as he allowed his gaze to sweep the cavern, the darkness not bothering him as he could see rather well due to his dark elf heritage. He then looked at her as she apologized but he couldn't help the lazy smirk that tugged at his lips. He was more than capable of using a drying spell, but he chose not for the moment. If only, because he was more interested in what she had to say about the Stagmights. That and she looked good with her wet clothing clinging to her curves. Of course, he wasn't heartless and planned to do a drying spell once he had learned some more information about that situation. He was silent for a long time before brushing some of his wet bangs from his face and looking at her with deep interest. "Most dark elves don't trust anyone, not even the rest of Elven kind. Plus, humans have not exactly given most elves reason to trust them, either. No offense, of course, princess. And yes, I'm quite aware since I'm half dark elf myself."

He gave her a cheeky smile and chuckled deeply. "The lack of security...is that what caused your father to seek out my father for an alliance?" He couldn't help but ask in curiosity before pausing as he watched her unclasp a necklace from around her neck. He was then taken off guard as an illusion faded and it was revealed her face was not as flawless as it had originally seemed. He was stunned for a moment before he snapped out of it. "An illusion charm?" He asked in interest but taking a good look at her face and noticing the burns and deformed eye before focusing no her question. He thought long and hard for a moment before he smirked. "I do still think you are amazing. Yeah, you're scarred, but who cares? If you're worried about me thinking you're ugly, princess, you should toss that thought out the window. Beauty isn't always what's on the outside. Sometimes it's on the inside." He then shrugged before waving his hand and cast a silent drying spell. "Sorry for not casting that sooner. I was distracted by our enthralling conversation."

He then turned his attention towards the waterfall entrance, a thoughtful look on his face. He truly didn't seem at all bothered or repulsed by her true appearance. "We all have our scars, princess... inside and outside. Your appearance doesn't disgust me." He then looked at her, an inquisitive look on his face. "However, I cannot help but wonder... are you comfortable being in the presence of an elf? Especially one who is half dark elf? I'm the nephew of King Oberon of the dark elves, too. Are you afraid of me?" He asked, tilting his head slightly to the side as he looked at her. He then smiled at her, chuckling to himself. "I wouldn't fault you if you were afraid, princess, but I assure you that I have no intention of hurting you and I have no interest in the politics of whatever my father or uncle choose to do. It's not like I'm ever going to be king." There was a slight tinge of bitterness in his voice before he looked away, changing the subject. "I hope we're not stuck in here for too long or I'm going to go stir crazy knowing there's a fight going on and I cannot participate."

Elayne clasped her necklace back on as she couldn't help the slight surprised glimmer in her eyes. She merely smiled at his words, silent as he spoke to her. "Well in my experience, my beauty has always been my best weapon but for the reasons few expect..." Elayne smirked before sighing softly as he cast a drying spell. "I've been told I'm quite distracting before..." Elayne said as she sat down by the fall to watch. "You ask me if I fear you? I'd be a fool not to be wary of any man I meet, but if I was afraid, I don't believe I would be alone with you. Oddly, I welcome your company. You don't strike me as the foolish type nor the kind that are fond of the art of politics..." Elayne sighed, her eyes sadly gazing at the water.

"I envy those who are not trapped in the confines of a royal's cage. If I could rewrite my fate, I would..." Elayne trailed off with a thoughtful grin, a genuine expression that brightened. "I would live in the mountains, I always loved the cold over the heat. I would hunt and provide for myself, care for my own homestead cottage. No one would bother me with the noise of silly problems, I need not worry about the mundane mumbling of royals, and I could behave however the hell I want..." Elayne giggled that the thought before turning her gaze to Zelious. "Shocked? Let me guess, you thought I was a bore and obedient?" Elayne smirked to Zelious with an insightful gaze.

"I'm not as dimwitted as many assume nor am I the obedient type either..." Elayne said before trailing her eyes over him curiously. "You like to fight? My father says its unbecoming for a princess to fight so I do the next best thing, I watch and enjoy." Elayne said as she stroked her fiery hair. "What good is a man that does not fight? Do you know how boring royals are, always hiding behind their fathers' lordships and their guards? What good does that do when a kingdom is under attack? Ridiculous...I rather die than produce offspring with a defenseless and spoiled coward..." Elayne rolled her eyes at the idea.

Bonds of Royalty Empty Re: Bonds of Royalty

Zelious couldn't help but chuckle at how wrong he had been about this princess. She was certainly far more interesting than he had originally pegged her for and he found himself actually enjoying her company. It was definitely an upgrade from conversing with his soldiers or most of his siblings. The only sibling he could ever even relate to was his full sister. His half siblings were just too different from him so he mostly ignored them when he could. Unfortunately, it was next to impossible to ignore Ailuin, however, since he was being groomed to be the next king for whenever Taeral either died or grew bored of ruling.

"Well, princess... I must say I am impressed. You continue to surprise and impress me the more time I spend with you." He grinned at her, moving over to sit down on the cave floor beside her, growing tired of standing. However, he still kept a hand near his sword's hilt. "Honestly, it's smart of you to be wary in the presence of any man. Though, lucky for you, beside the fact that I'm relatively harmless, you're not alone. You got Equinox in here. I'm sure if he sensed I was a threat, he would not like me at all or let me near you. Horses are very intelligent."

He then fell silent as she spoke about being envious of those not trapped in the confines of a royal's cage and he couldn't help but relate. Though, there was once a time that he longed to fulfill the role his father laid out for him until he had deigned him unworthy and instead chose his brother over him. "You'd like it where my grandmother lives then. She lives in a winter palace, high up in the mountains and away from the world. But I imagine she's a bit too high up in the mountains for your liking. Fortunately, the snow elves don't seem to bother her." He then looked at her question and chuckled.

"Yes, I did, actually. I thought you'd be a pretty face at most but without the brains or courage to make something of herself and just be obedient. It's a good thing that you're not like that. Of course, not good for my brother. He's not going to know how to handle a woman like you. It's not that he's used to passive women, he just lacks the experience of very feisty women. Most of the women back home fawn over him for him for his pretty face and title. I bet you're as fiery as your hair when the mood hits you." He then paused at her next question and nodded. "Yeah, I do. Perhaps a little too much. I've been getting into brawls and swordfights since I was small. My role as general of our army seems fitting. And honestly, I don't care that I've been exiled to that kind of role. I'd rather be training soldiers and fighting wars than stuck in a castle, entertaining boring nobles."

He then snorted as he looked at her. "If you like a man who fights, then you're going to be sorely disappointed by Ailuin. He's a pacifist and he'd rather try to use words to solve things. He's a total pansy. Would have suited a scholar role more than a prince and future king. I don't know what my father and his mother see in him." He rolled his eyes in obvious annoyance. "Though, I suppose they don't have any other choice with Ailuin and I being the only two male heirs. My father would never choose one of his daughters to lead, either. Not that any of them would be suited for it except for maybe my full blooded sister."

Elayne played with her hair more anxiously at the mention of snow elves, but she remained silent as he spoke about his grandmother. Clearly the mention of snow elves made her nervous, more so than dark elves. She then smiled at his mention of her being feisty and fiery, her shoulders relaxing slightly. "I noticed, however, it is not up to me. My family needs the security and it is my duty as a princess to marry the man my father deems fitting for me. Sometimes you can only make the best out of a situation...." Elayne trailed off before smiling as he talked about fighting. Clearly he had a passion for it, inwardly it was a pity he was not the one in line for the throne.

Elayne looked over to the waterfall, noting it was quiet. "I think the fight has died down, we should head back. I'm less wary about it now." Elayne said as she got up with a sigh walking over to Equinox and holding the reigns as she walked towards the waterfall. "Might need that drying spell once more." Elayne smiled as she climbed on the horse, waiting for him to join her. She jumped out of the waterfall and walked slowly with a slight frown. "I enjoyed your company, my Prince." Elayne spoke genuinely as her horse cantered towards the gates as they let them in. Elayne was approaching the gates before she halted. "Its quiet...there's usually guards right by the gates..." Elayne said as Equinox halted and knickered in protest while his ears twitching. "The south gate usually has at least-" Elayne was about to say as something dripped from above. She looked at the scarlet puddle before looking above. All the guards were dead, pinned by daggers to trees. Elayne didn't hesitate as she kicked Equinox to run.

Shadows followed them, as Elayne tried to get Equinox to go as fast as he could before a dark elf appeared forward causing the horse to panic and rear on its hind legs. Elayne felt herself fall off as one masked dark elf yanked her by the hair, causing Elayne to thrash around. "Stay out of this, Prince." One of them growled as Elayne felt a dagger on her throat and let out a frightened cry that seemed rather genuine. That was until Elayne let out a loud shriek as one of the elves that had a hold on her was set ablaze by her, combusting into ash. The other elf dark elf looked fearfully at Elayne before disappearing into a portal. Elayne coughed as she breathed in some ash as she then looked to Zelious with a weak smirk. "They shouldn't have tried to kill a dragon shifter, that's like playing with fire..." Elayne coughed, her neck bleeding a little from the dagger cutting her. Wincing a little as she lightly touched around the wound.
